David R. Leopold – Home Inspector
A third generation native of Fairfield County and son of a Realtor, you could say my life has been all about Connecticut real estate! My career includes over 20 years of property management and home inspection experience in this area. I’m a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston and St. Luke’s School in New Canaan. I served two terms as president of the Coastal Connecticut Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors and remain an active volunteer on their Board of Directors.
As an expert in condominium operations and community association reserve analysis, I obtained the PCAM designation: Professional Community Associations Manager from the Community Associations Institute. I hold a certification as a FEMA Field Inspector for presidentially declared disasters, am certified as a Wood Destroying Insect Registry Inspector by the New England Pest Management Association, and am certified for Deck Inspection and Evaluation by the North American Deck and Railing Association.
My business has been awarded the Pillar To Post Pinnacle Award many times at our international conference as a Top 10 franchisee. My wife, Terri, and I have been married for 30 years and we have three children: Brad, Kim, and Bill and are grandparents to Kim’s children, Bailey and Rowan.
Eugene G. Autore – Home Inspector
Gene joined Pillar To Post in 2002 after a long and successful management career – which included the distinction of being general manager for the most successful, largest volume Home Depot store in Connecticut. Gene knows houses from the parts in the yard to the nails on the roof!
In addition to the thousands of home inspections Gene has performed for Pillar To Post clients, his inspection experience includes certification as a US Housing & Urban Development S-8 Housing Quality Standards Inspector for the City of Norwalk Housing Authority. Currently, Gene is the President of the Coastal Connecticut Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors.
Gene is a graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, and has been married to his high energy CEO-wife, Linda, for 42 years. They have three children: Lauren, Jeffrey and Michael and Gene is a new grandfather to Lauren’s daughter, Emma!
John D. Hamlin – Home Inspector
A lifelong Fairfield County resident, John learned the value of client service at an early age assisting his father’s real estate business. A proud 1996 graduate of the University of Connecticut, John also is a 2010 graduate of the American Society of Home Inspectors school for home inspectors, and likes to devote his spare time to home renovation and volunteer-oriented construction projects.
With expertise in building science and energy efficiency, he has held accreditations by the US Green Building Council and the Building Performance Institute, served as an Energy Advisor with the Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge, and is a certified for Deck Inspection and Evaluation by the North American Deck and Railing Association. Currently, John serves as President of the Coastal Connecticut Chapter of ASHI. He is certified as Home Energy Score Qualified Assessor by the US Department of Energy, and as a Wood Destroying Insect Registry Inspector by the New England Pest Management Association.
He and his wife, Pat, have been married since 2002 and are happy to call Easton their home. They have three children; Matthew, Jacob and Eva. John also serves on the Board of the Easton Exchange Club and is a Cub Scout Den Leader. Trained by the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) as a Master Wildlife Conservationist, John volunteers teaching children about CT wildlife and habitats.
Michael S. Lovell – Home Inspector
Mike is an expert in residential construction and remodeling. He has 20 years of field experience including running a successful remodeling company, as well as graduating from The Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA with an AS degree in Building Construction Technology. He holds certifications from the National Association of Homebuilders as a Certified Graduate Remodeler; Certified Green Professional, and a Certified Aging in Place Specialist. Mike is also a Certified Building Analyst by the Building Performance Institute, an EPA Lead Safe Renovator, a certified Wood Destroying Insect Registry Inspector by the New England Pest Management Association, and is certified for Deck Inspection and Evaluation by the North American Deck and Railing Association.
Mike has been married to Brooke for 15 years and they have a son, Colton, and daughter, Laura. He enjoys being a leader in the Cub Scouts / BSA, spending time with family and friends, and if time ever permits, finishing the renovation of his own home.
Nicholas J. Barnett – Home Inspector
Nick is a long time Fairfield County resident who currently resides in Monroe. He graduated from the prestigious Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA having earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Architecture. During his career, Nick has evaluated bridges along major highways in Connecticut, worked in commercial design, and most recently with a custom home builder where he managed the construction of a variety of 8,000 to 12,000 square foot homes costing in excess of $12,000,000 to construct.
Nick is certified as a Wood Destroying Insect Registry Inspector by the New England Pest Management Association, is certified for Deck Inspection and Evaluation by the North American Deck and Railing Association, and as an EPA Lead Safe Renovator. He also finished first in his class in the Pillar To Post Home Inspection School scoring 98% on his final exam. When he’s not inspecting homes, Nick devotes his time to remodeling his own home, working on his custom cars, spending time with his family, and participating in various Slovak related events.
Robert P. Kneen – Vice President of Customer Support
Bob has been in the business of providing first class customer service in Fairfield County for the past twenty five years, and our customers and Realtors rave about his extra-mile performance on their behalf. He has both construction and remodeling experience as a business owner, and is frequently called upon for that expertise performing follow-up inspections and customer inquiries. Bob handles all our pre-inspection needs assessment and fulfillment and is our chief customer and vendor interface.
He is an expert in radon measurement and testing protocols, and he is certified nationally and in Connecticut by the National Radon Proficiency Program for Residential Radon Measurement. Bob has trained in Advanced Fungal Data and Interpretation with EMSL Labs, is OSHA and RRP lead paint certified, and handles most of our residential well water testing.
Bob has been married to Liz since 1991 and has two beautiful children born in 2001 and 2003. When Bob is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, exercise, and reading.
Steve Arata – Field Support Specialist
Steve joined the Pillar To Post team after thirty years in the retail hardware/ building materials field. Spending most of his career as a hardware store manager, he provided stellar customer service while training his employees how to make every customer happy. Steve has vast knowledge of home systems and their maintenance. With a strong focus on customer satisfaction he has been helping homeowners tackle their home improvement projects for decades.
Steve has attended many classes on a wide array of topics including water chemistry, lead in paint, lead abatement, radon and mold in the home, and water filtration to name a few. Steve is certified nationally and in Connecticut by the National Radon Proficiency Program for Residential Radon Measurement.
In his off time Steve enjoys a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, fishing, swimming and archery. He often goes on nature hikes with his three boys; Avery, Evan and Ian. While indoors, you will probably find him in the kitchen whipping up culinary delights for family and friends. With three teenagers there is never a shortage of hungry mouths to feed.
Kim Oshman - Customer Support Specialist
Kim’s outstanding customer service has been widely recognized ever since she began her career at her family’s antique auction business, Gallery on the Hill. In addition to developing a love for all things with age and character, Kim excelled as the primary client point of contact. She simultaneously managed 10 employees and created an online catalog for the business so that customers so see and purchase their wares on-line. After the family business wound down, Kim decided to transition to working for a major telecommunications company. It was there that she learned to coach new hires, and developed a program to enhance the company’s ability to hire disabled workers. Kim was chosen as one of only two customer service professionals to demonstrate customer service best practices to visiting state and other officials.
Immediately prior to joining Pillar To Post, Kim lead an elite customer service team who planned exotic travel and learning experiences for baby boomers. Kim loves our customers, takes great pride in serving them well, and we and our customers are thrilled to be working with her. Kim is also a mom to two boys, Tom who attends American University, and Sam, who is in elementary school. Besides spending time with her children and her husband Adam, Kim loves to cook and browse old bookstores and consignment shops.
Cathy Castorina – Customer Support Specialist
Cathy has excelled in multiple customer support roles during her career. She has an extensive background where her responsibilities have included everything from office oversight to planning commencement ceremonies. Cathy has also been involved in the successful development and operation of several businesses within the trades and we are delighted to have her as part of our customer support staff.
A lifelong Fairfield County resident, Cathy is married to Anthony and has two children Anthony and Gabriella. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, photography, and spending time with family and friends.
Bridget Valentino – Customer Support Specialist
Bridget’s career includes a variety of customer service based positions. She was successful in managing a portfolio of various bank owned properties for six plus years at GMAC-Client Branded Solutions and Clayton National. During her tenure as an Asset Manager, she fostered strong relationships with realtors, attorneys and closing companies. Bridget also assumed many leadership roles and was key in motivating and helping other fellow employees. She has been married to John since 2001 and they have a son, Dante, and a daughter, Brittani. She enjoys travel, entertaining, and spending time with her family and friends.
